Wind Burn

Continuous high-velocity airflow on a small group of leaves causes deformation - typically cupping or clawing with crispy, leathery edges and sometimes a clenched-claw look. Indirect air movement under the canopy is essential, but a fan pointed straight at a fixed spot stresses tissue and accelerates moisture loss.

What usually causes it

  • Fan pointed directly at the same leaves at close range
  • High-velocity AC, intake or extraction outlet hitting the canopy
  • Combined with low humidity, the effect is much worse
