Magnesium Deficiency
Interveinal chlorosis - yellowing between veins while the veins themselves stay green - starting on older / lower leaves. Magnesium is mobile so the plant strips it from older leaves to feed new growth. Common in coco and hydro on RO or soft tap water without cal-mag.
What usually causes it
- pH out of optimal range (Mg uptake best at 6.0-7.0 in soil, 5.8-6.3 in coco/hydro)
- Soft / RO / rainwater with no cal-mag supplementation
- High K or high Ca antagonising Mg uptake (cation competition)
- Cold root zone slowing transport
